Sunday Movies with the Happy Goats

It's that time again - can you believe it?
Break out the popcorn - it's time for

SUNDAY MOVIES WITH THE HAPPY GOATS
(and chickens)

Today's movie stars Abby and the chickens. Be sure to look when Abby shows how she feels about the chickens sharing her lunch!

I hope you all enjoyed seeing Abby at her most erm, gracious. But I think I would have gotten annoyed at all those chickens trying to eat my lunch too.

The publicist did take the suggestion to heart to upload the video to blogger but she does not have a little filmstrip. She has the newer blogger editor and she is having trouble finding out how to upload videos with this newer editor. She will keep trying though....

Luke and Mallory....Again!

My beloved Luke had a visitor to his pen this week. You know I am not very happy when this happens but I know he has to do his job on the Farm. I also know that his heart belongs to me and that is what counts!

Mallory had had her date with Luke to dance the Argentine Tango but apparently it was not a very good date and she was wailing that she wanted another chance to dance. The publicist says it's because she wasn't pregnant but I think she just wanted to spend some time with my little studmuffin. Harumph!

So Mallory went over to visit my lucky Luke and he shared his hay with her. Isn't he a generous goat?

After they had their meal and did a bit of dancing Mallory was ready to go back to the doe pen. She was danced out!

Luke didn't share his grain with her like he did with me. Ha!

AbbyDay: I am Stealing Pricilla's Award Because I Think I Deserve It More Anyway

Pricilla was given an award by the very funny blogger Grand Pooba. Pricilla is very bad about her awards but I am going to take this one because I think I deserve it more than she does anyway. Grand Pooba has said that this is One Lovely Blog! Isn't that nice?

The rules say I  have to pass it on to seven other blogs that I like. Ha! I am Abby - I don't follow the rules! I say give it to all of the blogs that come to visit me. I say Pfffttt! to the rules. That's how I run.

It also wouldn't be AbbyDay without a picture of me! Here is one with me and Pricilla - see, I can share the limelight - out in our other field munching on weeds.

Have a great weekend everyone! Be sure to come back for the movies on Sunday.

Tomorrow: Luke and Mallory have a date

Matthew Butt Me!

That Matthew! He is growing up and he is getting frisky. His nanny had a date with Luke the goat on Tuesday - I will tell you all about that on Saturday - and Matthew was running around because he missed her. So he decided to take it out on me.

ON ME!
He came over and started to butt me. This is where he got the goat hair that was on his horn yesterday. Silly Matthew!

I put my head down to him but that did not seem to discourage him at all.

He even did the goat stomp at me.
The goat stomp!

Can you imagine such a thing?!
Who does he think he is? Harumph!
Mallory was watching - with pride I think. Harumph again! But I suppose I would be proud if a kid of mine did the goat stomp at a bigger goat so I guess I understand....

He soon calmed down and went and stood on the stool with his nanny. I am sure she was critiquing his stomping.

Harumph!

Tomorrow: It's AbbyDay!

Wordless Wednesday - What's That, Matthew?

What's that on Matthew's horn...
Here's a close up

You'll find out tomorrow!
You'll be horrified!

Just WHERE Did Luke Go?

I am sure you are all dying from the suspense since I left you hanging on Saturday.  I told you that Luke was heading up the driveway - where was he going?

That little devil! He was going to go off the Farm!

He started to go across the street to visit the horses. You know how we all like to go visiting now and then.

But the publicist ran after him and got him back onto the Farm where he went over to nibble on the pine trees.

Ooooh, look at that cute little goat! I wish I could run right over there and.....this is a family blog, I will behave.

He then gave his head a good scratching. Those limbs are very good head scratchers.

And he headed back to his pen.

What an adventure for my little studmuffin. He had a great time out exploring.

Goatucation: All About my Stomachs - Yes, StomachS, Part I

We goats, like all ruminants, have FOUR stomachs! Isn't that pretty amazing? I am sure you have seen me use the word ruminant a lot on this blog but here is the definition:

Any of various hoofed, even-toed, usually horned mammals of the suborder Ruminantia, such as cattle, sheep, goats, deer, and giraffes, characteristically having a stomach divided into four compartments and chewing a cud consisting of regurgitated, partially digested food.
adj.
1. Characterized by the chewing of cud.
2. Of or belonging to the Ruminantia.
3. Meditative; contemplative
(from The American Heritage Dictionary)

I know that whole partially digested food thing sound disgusting to you humans but it's how we work. And I can be very contemplative....don't I look like a deep thinker here?

But back to how my digestive system works. We goats eat a very rough diet (except for my tasty apple treat at night. They are not rough) that includes hay, straw, weeds and grasses. In order for us to get the most nutrition out of these low nutrition foods we have those four stomachs but they are really chambers named  1) the rumen, 2) the honey-combed reticulum, 3) the omasum, and 4) the abomasum or true stomach. Don't worry, there won't be a test!

Our rumen is like a big fermentation vat. Our feed goes in there and then good bacteria breaks it down and causes fermentation. This helps to keep us warm. When we eat our hay or weeds it gets all full of our saliva and this mess is swallowed. This is our cud. Those same bacteria help to break it down and then we goats, well, bring it back up into our mouths to chew it some more. I know you humans don't like the thought of that, but cud is mighty tasty to us goats. We like to burp when we bring up our cud; the publicist is not fond of our goat gas. Heh heh.

After the cud is chewed enough it goes to our second stomach where any things we shouldn't have eaten are sifted out. This second stomach or reticulum is sometimes called our "hardware stomach."

This is a lot of information so I will cover our other two stomachs in next week's Goatucation. You can ruminate on this information for now.

Tomorrow:  Where DID Luke go?

Sunday Movies with the Happy Goats - Run!

Does everyone have their popcorn?
Are you comfortable in your seat?
I ask because it is time for

Sunday Movies with the Happy Goats

Today's movie stars me, Pricilla! I am in a joyful mood and I think it shows. Enjoy the movie!

I sure hope that you enjoyed today's movie I had fun performing for you. Be sure you come back next Sunday for the next great movie!

The Love of My Life Goes for a Graze

My little studmuffin had a lucky day yesterday. The publicist let him out of his pen. Since we are all now (hopefully) pregnant we aren't paying much attention to him. I know this sounds cruel - it doesn't mean I don't love my Luke, I just don't want to spend a lot of time with him right now. Neither do the the other does. But this is good for him because it means he can roam around a bit.

He enjoyed checking out the yard again. It's been a while since he saw the river.

He even did some "yard clean up" for the male person. He ate the dead pine needles!

He did stop by and try to chat up us does but we were no where to be found.

Then he started to run up the drive way.

Where was he going? Don't go far my love.
You will find out on Tuesday.

AbbyDay - The Sun Glints off My Fur

While that silly Mallory was chasing Pricilla around and then doing the goat stomp at her kid I was just out enjoying the sunshine. We rarely have such beautiful sunshine in the winter here in Montana and I wanted to make the best of it.

I went into the doe pen and I just stood in the sun. The sun was making my fur shine. Aren't I beautiful in the sun?

I mean the sun just glints off of my fur. I am just a perfect example of what a healthy goat should be.

Aaaaah, the sun. I think I will go eat some hay now and bask in the sun. You should do the same.

That Mallory!

You are all going to think it is Mallory week here on The Maaaaa of Pricilla but she has been acting up! You saw how she was chasing me around on Monday and today you will see how she went after little Matthew.
Yes, you read that correctly - she was even chasing after her own kid.

Although, it is a good thing for a nanny to teach her kid how to do the goat stomp. The goat stomp is an important thing for a goat to learn.

That Matthew sure doesn't look too impressed does he? So Mallory decided to stomp at him again!

When Matthew just ignored her again, Mallory ran off...

I can't say that I blame her, none of us like to be ignored do we?

Tomorrow: It's AbbyDay and you know what that means.

Wordless Wednesday - Detente?

Hmmmm, it LOOKS like detente but I will admit that I saw the rooster chasing the publicist across the yard later in the afternoon.

Mallory Gets Frisky

The weather had been quite rainy and we had to spend some time in the barn. We don't like spending time in the barn. We can't run around. We can't stretch our legs. So when we get out after a day in the barn we can be a bit, erm frisky.

Mallory was especially frisky on Sunday.  She chased me right up onto a spool!

I let her know that this was not appropriate though. I put my head down to her! Harumph!

She then had Matthew try and butt me off of the spool! The nerve!

I held my own though and the spool was mine in the end.

She should know by now that Pricilla reigns supreme!

Goatucation: The Four Kinds of Goats

I thought you all would like to learn about the four different kind of goats. Yes, believe it or not there are other types of goats other than dairy goats like me. Of course I think that dairy goats are best but I suppose I am just a little bit prejudiced.

Therefore, the first kind of goat is the dairy goat and you already know quite a bit about me! And, well Abby. And Mallory. We are nice goats that give milk. And like to bask in the sun.

The second kind of goat is a fiber goat. These breeds are bred for their wool. They are Angora, Cashmere, Nigora and Pygora.

)

That cute goat is an angora goat. Not as cute as me of course! These goats' hair can be spun into wool for knitting and crocheting.

Then there are our wild cousins, the Mountain Goats. The publicist and male person saw lots of Mountain Goats when they went to Glacier National Park.

The publicist really likes Mountain Goats! But they are not pets like me and Abby and the rest of the Happy Goats.

And lastly there are meat goats! Oh, the horror! People actually eat us! The goats usually bred for eating are Boer goats.

I hope you liked learning about the other kinds of goats out there. Just don't invite me to a barbeque....

Sunday Movies with The Happy Goats

Welcome to my new feature here on the blog;

Sunday Movies with The Happy Goats

Every Sunday I will have a video to show you about life on the Farm. I must admit that that this week's video is a little embarrassing for me but I am committed to showing it all...

But I have never denied that I loves me some apples!!!

The Chickens are WEIRD!

You know that I am forced to share my goat pen with the chickens. Most of the time they really don't bother me. But sometimes they do things that are just too weird.

A couple of weeks ago I saw this

A CHICKEN STOLE A DEAD MOUSE FROM STINKY THE FARM CAT!

How disgusting is that?
What did that chicken think is was going to do with the dead mouse?
I don't even want to think about it.
It was running so fast the male person could hardly get pictures - don't ask. The publicist made him

The chicken finally put it down

Who's chicken legs are that in the background?

Of course!
Blue Guy!
He misses nothing around this Farm.

I think the chickens are weird and nothing is going to change my mind!

Be sure to check out the publicist's blog. Her giveaway for SkinMD Natural Shielding Lotion ends tonight. Soft hands are good.

AbbyDay - The Premiere of the AbbyMovie!

It's AbbyDay and of course since there are now movie parts available I of course am going to audition.

But! I need time to primp! I need time to prepare! What was the director thinking just coming to me this morning without notice and expecting me to perform?! Does she think I am a machine? Pfffftttt!
I will show her! She will have to wait until I am ready to perform. Then she can film ME without those pesky chickens getting in the way and making noise, noise, NOISE!

But you have to admit - I looked good even when I was giving the director some butt time.

I Am Starting to Show!

I know that the publicist has told you all that I am pregnant. My kid(s) will be here in April. I am always excited about having a kid or two. I hope that I have a doe this time because then my kid will get to stay on the Farm. That would be nice for me because this will be the last time I have a kid. I am getting to be an old goat you know.

The publicist was making rude comments the other day that I was looking a bit plump already. I don't think I look plump! I think I look like any pregnant goat should!

I was quite annoyed that she was trying to take photos of me from my bad side so I wouldn't let her. Harumph to the publicist! She should know that no goat wants to be shot from behind when she is expecting.

I mean really!
With all I do around this Farm you would think I get a little respect!
Harumph!

Tomorrow: Abby stars in her first movie.

Luke Loves the Does

Every day the publicist takes us up to the barn so we can get settled in for the night. We does and Matthew go up first and then she goes back for Luke.  He is always very excited about getting in to the barn to see us...as you will see in this new Happy Goats Video!

Isn't he just the handsomest little high kicking goat you have ever seen?

The publicist apologizes for the jerky parts. She is still learning. She also needs to work on her "goat voice."  I told her she was a bit annoying but she didn't listen to me....

Don't forget my Blogoversary Giveaway. Today is the last day to enter!

Goatucation: Really Chickucation - The Blue Andalusian

So today I am going to teach you all about Blue Guy or as he is more formally known - The Blue Andalusian Rooster.  Blue Guy is our exotic rooster. When the male person ordered his chicks last spring he received one exotic. If you remember, we didn't know what that little chick was going to be for quite a while.

But that little chick grew up to be Blue Guy.

He is a pretty rooster, isn't he.
The Blue Andalusian is named after the Province of Andalusia in Spain and is one of the oldest Mediterranean Breeds. The lovely slate blue color came about by breeding black and white birds.  Sometimes if you breed two blues together you will get a white bird - isn't that funny?

They are decent egg layers (well not the roosters!) and very fast runners. I can attest to that. I have seen Blue Guy tear across the goat pen like a crazed bird! Usually to attack the publicist!

I hope you liked learning about Blue Guy's breed of chicken.

Tomorrow:  More video!

The Very First Happy Goats Video - Starring Sherpa the Farm Kitten

The publicist has brought me the news that she has figured out how to use her new video camera. It's still too cold for any of the Happy Goats to star in a movie so she did an indoor movie starring Sherpa the Farm Kitten.

It was easy to get Sherpa to star because she gave him treats. I hope I get treats when it is my turn to star in a movie. I love treats. These were special treats! The publicist did a giveaway on her blog from The Lucky Dog Treat Company and Marlene sent Sherpa some yummy treats to try.  As you will see, Sherpa really liked his treats!

The publicist will hopefully get better as she learns how to use her new camera. It is supposed to warm up this week so keep your fingers crossed!

SpokesGoat Announcement

Well, I guess I really have two announcements. The first is that the memory card for the publicist's new video camera arrived! Isn't that exciting? But the bad news is the temperature around these parts; it was 19* last night so the publicist couldn't take any movies of us. It will have to wait until the middle of next week when it warms up.
Oh well!

But now I have exciting news about my rich soap. This is what a SpokesGoat does and I have to earn my keep around here! But first I must show my headshot so you know I am on duty

The publicist can now make tiny, little bars of my rich soap
These are perfect as favors for weddings or showers.

Aren't they cute? They weigh 1.5 ounces and she can make them in any scent that is available in my shop or she could even order a custom scent with enough lead time.  These are a special order item because they take a month to cure so you have to let the publicist know you need them a bit ahead of time.

The publicist has done several orders of these cute soaps already; one large wedding and one trade show.  She can even make custom labels at no extra charge!

She can also make small round soaps too.
She is just full of ......ideas.

So remember,
Pricilla the SpokesGoat says

if you need favors for a party, wedding, shower or show
Happy Goats Soap is the place to go.

You didn't know I was a poet goat did you?

Tomorrow:  Hopefully video of Sherpa as a practice run.

AbbyDay - My Day in the Snow

It's AbbyDay! The best day of the week. I am sure you all agree with me on that!
I see that Pricilla is "celebrating" her blogoversary with two giveaways. Pfffftttttt! She thinks she is so special just because she has been writing this blog for a year. And hey! She can't claim that anyway - some of those posts are mine. So there! Pffffftttt again!

What about me? I have been contributing for.... a while now. Don't I get a blogoversary?

Well, on to my post for today.  Before we got into this whole "celebration" thing we had a snow day. Unlike Pricilla I don't mind the snow all that much. In fact when I go out in the snow I go to my favorite little mound in the yard and I move the snow away to get to the dirt. I love to eat dirt.

See the dirt on my nose?
Dirt is full of minerals just like our, well, minerals.

I enjoyed pine on New Year's Day too. Here I am warning Mallory off of my pine. She is a pine snitch!

I hope you enjoyed today's AbbyDay. Hopefully tomorrow we will have the publicist's first attempt at my starring role in a MOVIE. But I have learned that the movie camera cannot come out if it is below 32* so it might have to wait. We will see.
