The First Graze of the Spring

The first grasses are starting to appear. Mmmm, tasty green grasses.
Since the sun was shining the publicist let us out of our pen for the very first graze of the season!
Oh boy, what fun!

Mallory and Matthew headed for the bank to see what they could find.

The grasses are just starting to grow so they are very tender and delicious right now.

I took advantage of them and had a nibble myself.
Mmm, they WERE good!

Abby didn't get too far. She seemed more interested in the sheetrock pile.

My studmuffin was quite upset he didn't get to go out but his time will come.

I was so exhausted after all the grazing I just went back to my pen and lay down.
Grazing is very hard work!

Goatucation: How Goats Eat - Browsing and Grazing

It is no secret that we goats like to eat.
We like to eat a lot.
I have used a Goatucation (or two) to tell you about the four stomachs of a goat.
Now I will tell you about browsing and grazing.
We goats do both.
We are very talented - especially when it comes to food.
Mmmmm, food.

Grazing is the eating of grasses and weeds. This is what we do most often. If you ask me there is nothing better than some tasty grass.
We go grazing all summer long

We love to go grazing down by the river.
And then of course, there is stealth grazing.

That is hiding and eating the tastiest tidbits for yourself.

We are lucky that so many yummy grasses and weeds grow here.

Browsing is eating woody twigs and leaves.
You know how much we love to munch on our trees around here.

We don't look at our best when we are doing it but appearance isn't most important when you are going for a delicious nibble of some pine.
Mmmmm, pine.

It takes serious balancing to browse correctly.

My studmuffin is an expert browser.
Hi Luke!

I hope you enjoyed today's Goatucation it's a nice lead in to tomorrow's post - The First Graze of Spring.

Sunday Movies with the Happy Goats, er Chickens

It's that time again.
Can you believe how quickly the week went?
I can't!
Today I have a special treat for you - bad costumes, lots of feathers and really, really bad hair.
So get ready for

SUNDAY MOVIES WITH THE HAPPY GOATS, ER CHICKENS

Every day there is one chicken that won't leave the barn so the publicist has to carry her down. I think the chickens want our grain bucket. I know those chickens! They just want food.

The publicist apologizes for her bad costume - she says she doesn't dare wear her good clothes out with us goats because we climb on her and chew on her and we get our poop on her. I don't know why she says these things. I have never seen a goat climb on the publicist.

erm.

Tomorrow:  Goatucation

AbbyDay, Part II - I Am a Big Help to the Publicist

Despite all of the terrible things that Pricilla says about me I am a big help around this Farm.
As you saw yesterday I did a very good job of inspecting the hay pile to make sure all that new hay was A-OK for the rest of the goats. I wouldn't want them to eat dirty hay or anything like that.

I knew the publicist wasn't feeling too well yesterday so I helped her as she was setting up the goat barn. That's right! I can be nice. I am a good goat!
I checked out all of the goat pens to make sure they were ready for us to go in at night.
First I checked out Pricilla's pen...

Well, you wouldn't want me to leave any grains in there would you? Pricilla wouldn't want old grain. Of course she wouldn't! I am a very considerate goat.

I also checked on her hay feeder. The publicist asked me if Pricilla needed more hay and I nodded my head noooooo!

What's this? A chicken is trying to get in the goat barn! I gave that chicken a maaaaing to!

Then I checked out my own pen.

The door is very solid.
Hmmm, I wonder what that means. I know I butt it a lot but did the male person have to build it THAT strong?

Pfffttt!
Then I checked out Mallory and Matthew's pen

It was just fine.

Their hay feeder needed some hay though and I told this to the publicist and she took care of it. She is very good that way. She always makes sure we have hay to eat.

Then on my way out to go to my goat pen I stopped to visit with my studmuffin.
HE IS NOT JUST PRICILLA'S STUDMUFFIN.
He is mine too.
I don't care what she says.
Luke loves me too!

He was very happy to see me. But he really wanted to get out of his pen and get outside so I didn't stay long.

I know the publicist appreciated all of my help.

Tomorrow:  Sunday Movies with the Happy Chickens (!)

AbbyDay - I Inspect the Hay Pile

It's AbbyDay so of course I am going to show you what a wonderful goat I can be!
Pricilla tries to tell you that I am a mean goat but that is NOT TRUE!
I am a very helpful goat.
Just ask the publicist.
Today I helped her. A lot! In fact it is going to take two posts to tell you how much of a help I was. That's right!

You saw yesterday how the male person brought us some yummy new hay. But how did we really know it was yummy? Some goat needed to taste taste it and I thought that goat should be me!

So I climbed to the top of the hay pile.

I was going to be a thorough inspector goat so I gave it a good sniff.

Then I gave it a nibble.

And another nibble. And many more nibbles. Mmmmm, it's very good hay! I should know - I am a hay expert.

Then I checked the loose stuff at the bottom.

I found a tasty surprise!

I found some corn husks.
Mmmm, corn husks. What a yummy treat!

I had fun in the hay pile!
I made an excellent hay inspector.

Tomorrow: The rest of Abby's helpful day.

What the Horses Saw

You will recall from yesterday that the horses across the street were very interested in the goings on around the Farm.

What do you suppose had them looking so intently?
Just look at their pretty horse faces - I think they want to escape and come visit!

Maybe this explains it...

That's right!
The male person went on a hay run!
Yum!
Hay!

He worked very hard piling by our barn. Isn't he just the best? We love the male person.
And this is only half of our hay. He is going to get more this weekend. We are the luckiest goats!

Speaking of us - Abby was watching the male person too.

So were Mallory and Matthew.

But where am I?
I was practicing my goat yoga.

What?!
A doe has to stay limber, doesn't she?

Namaste.

Tomorrow is AbbyDay

Just WHAT are the horses from across the street watching?

Tune in tomorrow to find out.

What Happened to the Pine Pile?

Today I am Investigator Goat Pricilla!
I am on the case to try and find out what happened to the big pile of pine.

If you will recall, the horses' publicist gave us a great big gift. It looked like this.

But today this is what is left. WHERE did it go?
Could we have eaten it SO quickly?

I asked Mallory and she said, "It could not have been me. I take dainty little nibbles."

"In fact," she said "I usually just sniff at the pine pile, not eat it so go talk to Abby."

Buuuuurrrrrppppp! No, not me!

So I went off to talk to Abby.
I found her by a hay pile.
She did not look happy to be disturbed.

She said she has been eating hay, not pine and to leave her alone with her meal!

Then a rooster came and whispered in my ear.
It was...
COCK A DOODLE DOOOOOOOOOOO

Ow!
That hurt.
I wonder who he was going to tell me to maaaa to?
Maybe Matthew?
Could it have been little Matthew?
Could he have eaten all that pine?
He does love to munch.

As I think about it he munches all day long!

When I asked him he just licked his lips and walked away.
I think that proves it, don't you?

I think I have solved the case of What Happened to the Pine!

So goodbye now everyone.
There is nothing more to say.
Matthew is the culprit!

Hey!
