Goatucation - How Long are We Milked

Today is Goatucation day and I just loves me some Goatucation. How about you? Today's question comes from Julia. Now Julia is a busy blogger - she has two blogs; A Simple Life and The Apron Goddesses. The publicist tried to take a picture of me wearing an apron for Julia's blog. Harumph! I am a goat, not an apron model. But that is for another post. Today is Goatucation. Here is the question: How long can the publicist milk you goats after the kids are weaned?

This is a very interesting question and of course I can only speak for myself. After I had my two kids, Sarah and Michael - aren't they the cutest?

The publicist milked me for about two years. Now I wasn't giving as much milk at the end of the second year as I was at the beginning. Then about a month before I was to have my big date with that marvelous hunk of goat Luke

The publicist stopped milking me altogether so my system could have a rest.  Then after Luke and I danced the Rhumba my udder started preparing for little Kevin's birth. Or should I say big Kevin 'cause he was a big kid!

I hope this answered your question, Julia.

Tomorrow you will see a carrot top eating orgy!

Sweet Kid on Sunday

It's Sunday and I have been working pretty hard lately. What? You don't think a goat works hard? Harumph! I have to keep Kevin in line, I have the keep the weeds trimmed, I am the Head Goat around here so I keep the other goats organized, I am SpokesGoat AND I write this blog. Whew! That is a lot of work for one small goat. So I think I deserve a day now and then of semi-lazy blog writing. Just don't tell the publicist. She might keep my apples away from me or something.

So for today I am just going to share a very nice photo of Kevin. I know all of you are in love with Harry; he has that cowgoat thing going. But I still love my kid, Kevin. So here he is. I think he is just a real cutie!

Tomorrow I will get back to informative posts as it is Goatucation day.

It's Exhausting

All that carrot top eating was just too much for little Harry. It's a rough life for a goat.

Tomorrow:  The food orgy continues.

AbbyDay- I Love the Male Person's Garden

Do you want to know why? Because we get treats from it! Yes, that's correct. I am sure you all remember when Mallory and I got to Beet It. Well, the other day the publicist received a big box of carrots from the male person

And guess what we goats got to eat? That's right! The carrot tops. Mmmmm, they are mighty tasty.

Of course I am the best looking goat eating carrot tops. It's the bright green against my shiny black fur.

Here is my close up. I should be in a commercial!

Harry enjoyed some yummy greens too! He is my kid so he can share AbbyDay.

Tomorrow you will see how the other, inferior, goats enjoyed their carrot tops. And if you didn't get a chance to click " I like it" on the publicist's need for a vacation the Whrrl is off to the right there.

And big news! I get to make a SpokesGoat announcement. So there, Pricilla! This weekend only if you buy something from the publicist's jewelry shop you get a free bar of our rich soap - either a goat, a cat, or a plain bar. The details are in her shop announcement.
All items are 25% off too!

I Don't Understand - The Publicist Wants a Vacation?

I really don't understand this request but the publicist has asked me to post for her.  It seems she wants to go on vacation. Away from us goats. Can you imagine such a thing? Why would she want to leave us? I mean look at these faces - would you want to leave these faces?

But anyway, she wants to take a vacation and to do so she has made up a story and would like to ask if you would vote for it. You just have to click that you like it. My loyal readers will know most of the story already; It's mostly about the Farm!

I guess we have to give her a break every now and again.....
Tomorrow is AbbyDay so you know that anything is possible.

Down in the Valley

Well, it's not really a valley but a goat can pretend, can't she? The publicist and male person have a very nice piece of land for our Farm. It is flat on top, with a steep bank down to the river. There is also a bit of a gully between their Farm and the next lot. We always go down into the gully as part of our daily graze. I call it The Ravine because it sounds so much more intriguing than a plain old gully. Right now there are lots of tasty bushes and weeds and grasses down there to eat. You can see Jillian is having a good munch on one right here

I think she is really enjoying herself. Well, she is eating for two!

Mallory looks a bit jealous and seems to want a taste of Jillian's tree. Hmmm, I will bet a little goat fight ensued.

Is that a little white goat I spy?

Kevin and Harry love to go exploring. I think they spend more time running around than they do grazing. But kids will be kids.

After much eating of delicious leaves it was time to head back up the hill. I love our view!

Of course we stop for for some grazing along the way.

Little Harry seems to like to play hide and seek.

All in all a very nice way to spend our afternoons. I hope you liked seeing how we spend some of our time.

Tomorrow is Wordless Wednesday

Goatucation - Does a Goat Change It's Spots?

Today's Goatucation question comes to us from blueviolet over at A Nut in a Nutshell. The publicist said she can almost understand this blog as she grew up in a nuthouse. But that is another topic all together. Blueviolet asked:

I am wondering if when they are born if all of their spots and coloring carry through into adulthood or does that change over time?

Well I am going to do my best to answer this - at least with the experience I have had at the Farm. For the most part we do keep our spots and colors. They sometimes darken over time and especially in the winter when we grow our heavier coats but as you can see in these photos of Luke the goat as a kid

and as the handsome hunk of buck he is now. He is is flemming for me here.

He has pretty much kept his gorgeous cowlike coloring. I never knew I could have such a thing for cowgoats. Oh Luke I love you!

Ok, Ok. The publicist says I have to stop thinking about Luke now and go on with my post.
She is no fun.

Michael the goat has changed a bit since he was a kid but mostly it is just his hair getting a bit darker and his mantle getting longer as a mature bucks will.

If you look closely at his earlier photo you can see the dark hair along the top of his back. That is the hair that became his beautiful mantle. He still has his white spots. He inherited them from me. I am a proud nanny.

My last example is Kevin the goat. Now of course he isn't that old yet but here is his baby picture. You can see his cute knee pads and the spot under his eye. You can also see the black splotches along his back leg.

And here he is currently - with the same knee pads, eye spot and splotches.

Little Harry is really too young to show any changes at all but he is so cute I will just post his photo.

I hope this has answered your question blueviolet. I thank you for asking it.

Tomorrow - we explore the ravine.

The Publicist is Cheating on Us - Part II

Yesterday I reported the very upsetting news that the publicist was cheating on us.

Seriously!
She is seei
ng other goats!
OTHER GOATS!

Not just seeing them, but milking them too. The evidence is shown in photos in my blog post. I can't show it again; I get too upset. I just hope she doesn't deci
de to run off to the other Farm and leave us. The other Farm has so many fun animals. It has sheep. Sheep that baaaa in bass. The publicist said she has never laughed so hard in her life because the sheep baaaa so low.

And look at the loooooong tail on this one sheep. Has anyone ever seen a sheep with such a long tail?

There were even MORE goats there. More than the ones I showed you yesterday. These little goats live in another pen and even I have to admit they are cute.

This is their hay feeder and boy do they love to eat.

I know several of you are looking forward to seeing the alpaca. Well, here she is!

She wasn't very friendly at first but the publicist won her over. Doesn't she have a sweet face? (What am I writing?! I don't want to think the alpaca is sweet. I don't want the publicist to like it at the other Farm.)

There is a very nice horse too but she did not want her picture taken. She was playing shy. She went to the back of her barn where it was too dark and the publicist could not get her photo. Oh well. The publicist said she was generally very friendly and even ate some apple (even the horse got some treat!) but she didn't like the camera.

Of course there was a Farm cat!

And chickens! lots and lots of chickens.

The publicist says that today is her last day to babysit these goats. I will have to wait and see if this is true. I hope so. I hope she doesn't bring home any more goats. Or cats. There are enough goats here on the Farm. And enough cats. I know the male person will agree with me on that.

Tomorrow is Goatucation Day! I answer a question from blueviolet:
I am wondering if when they are born if all of their spots and coloring carry through into adulthood or does that change over time?

The Publicist is Cheating on Us!

I am shocked to report on this blog that the publicist is cheating on us! Can you imagine such a thing? She is actually seeing OTHER GOATS on the side. If you listen to her try and explain it she comes up with all these excuses like she is only babysitting the other goats and it's only for a few more days BUT REALLY! She has had the nerve to go to ANOTHER FARM AND MILK OTHER GOATS. Harumph! I don't know how I feel about this.

These are the goats she is "babysitting." They are LaMancha goats so they are full sized and they give her lots of milk; about a gallon a day. Of course MY milk is better. Their names are Daisy and Danielle. This is the publicist milking Daisy

Daisy really enjoys her grain. Boy, does she get A LOT of grain. Hmmm, I think I am going to have to talk to the publicist about how much grain I get.

Danielle waits patiently until it is her turn.

This is the publicist milking Danielle. Oooh, she is a BIG goat.

Wowzers! Look at that udder!

Daisy and Danielle live on a Farm with lots of other animals. These are their pen mates. Don't they look like little deer. Deer are our cousins, you know.....

The little whether seems to be wearing his dinner!

I have heard that the publicist is taking these goats apples!
SHE IS GIVING THEM TREATS!
HARUMPH!

Tomorrow I will show you the other animals on this Farm including more goats (MORE GOATS?!), sheep, a horse, some chickens, a cat and an alpaca. It's a busy Farm.

AbbyDay - A Big Announcement!

It's Friday so that means it's AbbyDay! I love AbbyDay. I have said it before and I will say it again - EVERY DAY SHOULD BE ABBYDAY! But Pricilla won't give up her blogging days and the publicist says I should be happy with one day and if I don't start behaving myself I will lose this day. Soooooo, on to today's post. I get to make a big announcement. Me, not Pricilla. So there Pricilla!

MALLORY THE GOAT IS PREGNANT!

Isn't that exciting?

She fooled us all. Esp
ecially the publicist. She thought her date with Michael the goat was all dancing and nothing else. Apparently the publicist was wrong because she was walking behind Mallory yesterday and noticed her udder dropping just like Jillian's. Then she started looking at Mallory and decided she looked decidedly.....round.

Of course she didn't h
ave her camera but she does have a photo of Jillian's udder so you can see what she's talking about. This udder development wasn't there a month ago. So new little kids will be on the Farm in the next month or so.

The publicist learned that Toggenburg does usually have single goats with their first pregnancies. I think this is good as I think there are enough goats here already. I am not getting as much attention as I used to and I DON'T LIKE IT!

Of course it wouldn't be AbbyDay if I didn't leave you with a photo of Me! Me enjoying my beet greens. Boy were they yummy. I had corn cobs today. Summer is so tasty.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow to see the Publicist's Field Trip.

When Did We Get a Third Spool for the Doe Pen?

You never know what is going to happen on the Happy Goats Farm. Each day brings a surprise. For example: just the other day the male person was quietly drinking his coffee and he heard noises from outside. He looked out the window and he saw this

He started to wonder when the doe pen acquired a third spool! He knows he only put two spools in there. Where did this third spool come from? He decided he better get a closer look.

Oh my! That's not a spool - it's the publicist! How did this happen?!

There is a goat on her back!

A small white goat!

Kevin the goat to be exact!

WHAT is he doing there?

The male person asked the publicist what was going on and she told him that she was petting her two little goats - she loves to pet her little babies. Then Abby came over to be pet so she bent down to scratch her ears and all of a sudden there was a goat on her back!

That Kevin - what a silly kid.

Then he started to eat her hair!

The publicist is not a goat snack!

My heavens!

Little Harry thought this whole thing was quite amusing. I am not sure that he would not have leaped onto the publicist's back had he been given the chance.

What will happen next in the doe pen?

I have no idea!

But tomorrow is AbbyDay and you know that ANYTHING is possible on AbbyDay.

The publicist has straightened up now and would like to remind you that she has TWO giveaways going on over at her blog; one for earrings and a gift certificate and one for custom postcards (with TWO winners!). Why not hop on over there and check them out?
