Little Bernadette is still trying to show those chickens who is boss!
I am not sure it is working.
You will have to decide for yourself after you watch this movie.
(Be sure the volume is not too high - there is a rooster!)
If you cannot see the movie you can watch it on YouTube HERE
Well?
What do you think?
Is Bernadette in charge - or is the molting hen in charge?

Harry's Chickens
There have been inquiries regarding "Harry's" chickens.
You will recall the chicks that the publicist and the male person found earlier this summer and that Harry so very carefullydrooled watched over.
Well, they eventually moved out of the living room and down to the basement.
Then they moved - if you can believe THIS horror - out to MY barn.
It's true!
I had to live with those smelly, peeping chicks in MY barn until they were big enough to move into the chicken house.
If you cannot see the movie you can view it on YouTube HERE
Thankfully they are now quite ensconced in the big new chicken house.
You can see they are doing fine but there are only five now.
One did not make it.
The publicist does not know why.

Silly Sunday - Just WHAT is Going on in My Hay Pile?
I am quite upset!
There are invaders in my hay pile.
It is true!
Just look at this photographic evidence:
Do you see that?
I think that is a chicken.
A CHICKEN!
In MY hay pile!
Just what is it doing there?
WHAT?!
My hay pile is not a nesting box!
That chicken should lay its eggs in its chicken tractor!
Silly chicken.
Leave my hay pile alone!
Shoo!

Harry the Farm Cat Gives a Gift (?!) to the Chickens
I warn you now!
Do not read further if you have a week stomach.
This is an icky, yucky post.
Harry the Farm cat has turned into a mighty hunter.
The publicist discovered that Harry was not sick he was depressed.
He wanted to go outside like the other Farm cats.
So in spite of her reservations and concerns she now lets him out.
He roams the Farm and he hunts!
He hunts pocket gophers and mice.
This makes the male person happy because there are too many rodents on the Farm.
EVERY day that Harry the Farm cat goes out he leaves a little gift (?!) for the chickens.
(The chickens being truly disgusting creatures)
Sweet little Harry the Farm cat
Leaves them a pocket gopher.
A dead pocket gopher.
He will leave it and one silly chicken will find it.
But then a crowd will form.
Maybe I should say a flock. Heh heh
The chickens will try and fight over the dead rodent.
But one will ultimately win and run off with it.
With the rest of the chickens in pursuit.
Crazy birds!
It looks like she is clucking, "wait for me."
But then they all had a party under the male person's truck.
I will NEVER understand chickens.

Farm Cat Friday - When Last We Left Harry.....
You will recall that in last week's Farm Cat Friday I told you of Harry's daring escape. At the end he was left like this:
Surrounded by chickens!
Oh noes!
How did this happen?
How did it end?
Let us start at the beginning!
As you all know Harry the Farm cat ESCAPED!
The publicist and the other Farm cats were searching for him.
He finally showed up but he dashed away to the other side of the Farm!
Then the publicist heard the chickens start to put up quite the racket.
She looked over and this is what she saw:
It seemed that Harry was going to be a chicken snack!
She had never seen the chickens gather around a Farm cat like that before.
But she had also never known a Farm cat to chase chickens quite like Harry before.
UH-OH!
Was Harry doomed?
It seems not for when she looked over again the chickens had dispersed and Harry was having a meow with two of them. Perhaps they have come to a detente!
No more Harry chasing chickens or chickens chasing Harry.
Peace in the Farm yard.
What do you think?

Farm Cat Friday - Who is Stalking Whom?
As you all know Sherpa the Farm cat spends a good part of his day outside running around and exploring the Farm.
Sometimes he just likes to sit and think.
I wonder what a Farm cat thinks about?
Perhaps about finding mice and stalking chickens.
What do you think?
But one day I saw this
And I had to wonder - who was stalking whom?
Is the chicken about to make a meal out of Sherpa?
Noooo, that would never happen but it was funny!
But I do think that a rooster gave Sherpa a good "crowing to" because Sherpa gives the chickens a very wide berth. He does not go near them.
Smart cat, that Sherpa!

Silly Sunday - Our Exotic Rooster
I can't imagine much sillier than our exotic rooster - the Polish crested.
When I first showed you him he looked like he had a cotton ball on his head.
Now his feathers have come in and he looks like he is wearing a hat.
Silly rooster!
He is a bit shy.
In the morning he first peaks out of the chicken tractor
then he pokes his head out and looks around
only THEN he will come down the ramp!
What a Prima Chicka!
He struts around the goat pen like he is something special.
I suppose he is with his black feathers, white hat and blue legs.
The publicist just hopes he does not turn into an attack rooster!

The New Chickens Have Moved OUT
You will recall that the publicist and the male person got New Hampshire Red chicks this year instead of Rhode Island Red chicks. Well, they have grown up enough to move out into the chicken tractor in my goat pen.
They are at that gangly teenage stage so they still look a bit funny.
It took them a few days to get used to having a new world to explore but now they come and go all the time.
In the morning the male person opens their door and they start coming out.
Some of them don't bother to use the ramp.
This chick just jumped!
Silly chicken!
They wander around the goat pen eating bugs and seeds and sometimes they STEAL MY GOAT GRAIN!
Can you imagine such a thing?!
This does not make me happy but when I try to maaaa to them about it they get this look in their eye
and it scares me.
Would you go up against that?
I didn't think so.
Not to mention that their beaks are SHARP!
When they are done for the day they go back in their tractor.
The end.
(ps - tomorrow I will tell you about the new exotic chick, the Polish crested)

The Chickens Need to Learn Some Manners
It's true!
Since they are "free range" they well range where ever they want.
This means that we goats often find a chicken in our goat pens.
We do not approve of this AT ALL!
Yesterday Luke and Brewster went into their pen and saw this.
Yes, your eyes do not deceive you.
Chickens are eating their hay.
Not really the hay but the seeds in the hay.
BUT THAT IS THE BUCK'S HAY
Not the chicken's!
Then. Then poor little Brewster found that he had to share his grain with a chicken.
HIS GRAIN!
We should not have to share our grain with any animal.
I cannot believe this is allowed to happen.
I think those boys should butt those chickens.
Harumph!
On a happy note I and all of the Happy Goats would like to wish the publicist and the male person a very Happy Anniversary. They have been married for 29 years.

Our Exotic Hen
Today's post is going to be a short post.
I am exhausted.
With all the sunshine we have been having I have been hard at work basking away.
And eating those carrots.
It's hard on a goat and I need my beauty sleep.
So today I am going to introduce you to our exotic hen.
You might recall that the publicist thought she was a Dark Brahma.
She still thinks that.
She is a shy hen and the publicist had a hard time getting pictures of her.
I think she looks pretty funny with her feathered feet.
What do you think?
She does have some very pretty green and purple feathers that light up in the sun but she would not pose so the publicist could show you them.
Maybe another time.
She will soon be laying eggs for the publicist and male person.

Chicken Tales
I am sure you are all wondering about the chicks.
I told you about them a while ago but I have not given you an update in a while.
I have exciting news!
The chicks have gotten big enough to be moved outside to the chicken tractor!
The male person has moved the chicken tractor out of my goat pen.
This makes me very happy.
I think the chicks are very happy too!
Not all of them have figured out how to come out of the little house to the outside world.
But those that do seem to like it outside.
The exotic chick is really showing his colors. The male person and publicist still think he is a dark Brahma.
Aren't the feathers on his feet funny?
Maybe these chicks will be lucky and they will win one of FarmMan's HenPals Nest Boxes from Life on a Southern Farm. You can try and win one too by clicking the link off to the right. Your chickens will live in style! Well, your hens will anyway. I don't think your roosters will care.
I hope you liked this update on the chicks.
I am just glad they are not in my goat pen.
For that I am doing the goat dance of joy!

SUNDAY MOVIES WITH THE HAPPY GOATS, ER CHICKENS
Every day there is one chicken that won't leave the barn so the publicist has to carry her down. I think the chickens want our grain bucket. I know those chickens! They just want food.
The publicist apologizes for her bad costume - she says she doesn't dare wear her good clothes out with us goats because we climb on her and chew on her and we get our poop on her. I don't know why she says these things. I have never seen a goat climb on the publicist.
erm.

Sunday Movies with the Happy Goats
It's that time again - can you believe it?
Break out the popcorn - it's time for
I hope you all enjoyed seeing Abby at her most erm, gracious. But I think I would have gotten annoyed at all those chickens trying to eat my lunch too.
The publicist did take the suggestion to heart to upload the video to blogger but she does not have a little filmstrip. She has the newer blogger editor and she is having trouble finding out how to upload videos with this newer editor. She will keep trying though....
Tomorrow: Goatucation - My Four Stomachs, Part II

SUNDAY MOVIES WITH THE HAPPY GOATS

Today's movie stars Abby and the chickens. Be sure to look when Abby shows how she feels about the chickens sharing her lunch!

Cluck, Cluck
I suppose you are all wondering how the chickens of the Farm are faring with the cold and snow we have had. Well, being the nice goat that I am I will tell you. They have their nice little chicken house that the male person built for them; he is a handy guy! To keep them nice and toasty and to keep their water thawed he put a heat lamp in there for them. Isn't he nice?
When the publicist gives us our water in the morning she checks for eggs. Looks like she found some!
I think that hen looks quite comfortable, don't you?
So you can see that just like us goats, the chickens of the Farm are quite well cared for no matter the weather.
Tomorrow: It's AbbyDay. Beware....
Our friend at Octoberfarm is having another wonderful Christmas giveaway! You should go over and check it out. She gives away wonderful and tasty presents.
