Special Sunday Edition - A New Member of the Herd

Louise the goat had her kid!
I a sure it comes as no surprise to anyone that it is a buckling.
Or that it is a cowgoat.
He came around 11PM so the publicist couldn't take photos until today.
The little guy was taking a drink when she went in this morning.

Louise was not at all happy about staying in the barn like the publicist usually does when a kid is first born. She was shaking and maaaaing and very upset so the publicist brought them down to my pen. That way they wouldn't have to worry about all of the other goats trying to surround him. Of course I wanted to lick him.

Just a little.

But Louise wouldn't let me.

Thelma and Alex weren't sure what to make of him.

He is very cute, isn't he?
All kids are cute.
He has three black legs, one white leg, three white socks and one black sock.

The publicist hasn't named him yet
She says he looks a bit like a harlequin clown.

Someone else suggested he looked like a jester.
He looks a touch surprised at that suggestion, doesn't he?

So she is going to leave it to you all - is he Harlequin (Harley for short)?

Or is he Jester (Jessie for short)?

Louise really doesn't care. If she wants him she just calls, "maaaaaaaaaaaa!"

I Get to Meet My Grandkid - Alex the Goat

I came down to my pen today and was in for a surprise!
It's true!
I would not lie.

I entered the pen and stopped short!
I did not see AbbyGoat in the pen.
I saw something else!
Something very special!

Thelma the goat and my new great grandkid, Alex the goat!
I was very excited!
I am not so sure Thelma was as excited as I was....

I would NEVER hurt a baby!
You do not have to bark at me Thelma!
(Yes, we goats do bark to warn away threats.)

Isn't my little great grandkid cute?
I think he is adorable - but I might be a little prejudiced.

Thelma is a good nanny.
She will take very good care of him.
You can see how tall he is - he is one big kid!

Thelma is maaaaing her joy far and wide.
Or starting to mooo, one or the other.
What do you think?
They are cowgoats after all!

Welcome to the Farm Alex the goat - we are happy you are here.

We Have a New Kid on the Farm

When the publicist posted her Consequences of Doing the Goat Rhumba photo yesterday she had no idea how immediate those consequences would be! We all woke up yesterday to find out that Thelma the goat was in labor! It took her all day and most of the night but at around 9PM the magic happened.

Thelma the goat had her kid.
And it was one VERY BIG KID!
I think the biggest kid ever born here on the Farm.
I am glad I did not have to pass that monster to give birth to that big baby.

As you can see it is another cowgoat.
Luke will be so proud.

Bernadette the goat was not sure WHAT was going on.
But she will soon find out she is no longer the baby of the Farm.

There will be better photos in the daylight.
Thelma waited until the barn was in complete dark and the publicist had to take these by the light of her headlamp.

Oh - you want to know the sex of the baby, don't you?
Bwamaaaaaahahahaha.
I guess I have kept you in suspense long enough.

But not QUITE yet.
Here is a little movie so you can hear what a newborn goat sounds like.
I thought you might like that.
The secret to doeling or buckling will be found within......

If you cannot see the movie you can watch it on YouTube HERE

Were you surprised?
A name will be forthcoming......

Welcome My Grandkid, Jim the Goat!

Yesterday was a very exciting day on the Farm.
Sarah the goat had her kid!
I now have a new grandkid. His name is Jim the goat.
But before I show you his cute little self I will tell you the tale of how he came into the world.

Sarah stayed in her pen in the barn because the publicist knew that she was going to have her kid.
The publicist stayed with her in the barn so she wouldn't be lonely.

She was a bit chilly so the publicist covered her.
As we goats do when we are in labor, Sarah "maaaaed" to her kid occasionally before he arrived.

There were some visitors.

Harry the Farm cat.

A silly chicken.

Stinky the Farm cat.
It was a busy barn!

The rest of us goats were out enjoying the beautiful sunny day.

Abby and her girls were basking.

I was practicing my goat yoga.
I need to stay limber to keep up with young kids!

Luke the goat was on alert.
He knew he would soon be a daddy goat again!

Then Sarah let out some very loud MAAAAAAAs.

And we had a new kid on the farm.
Jim the goat!
He is named after the publicist's best friend's husband.
Sarah licked and licked and licked as we mama goats do.

Then Jim the goat got his first taste of yummy milk.
It's called colostrum and it helps kids grow big and strong.

Sarah cleaned Jim all up and he was ready to meet the world.
So world....

....meet Jim!
There will be lots of pictures this week as Jim gets to go outside and meet the other goats on the Farm.

He might even meet...

HARRY THE FARM CAT!

Meet My Friends Monday will be back next week.

Wonderful Wednesday

I am here to tell you that Mallory had her kid last night!
It was late so there are no pictures....yet.
The publicist said she would put some up later today.
It was too dark in the barn when the new little

BUCKLING

was born so she could not take any.
He and Mallory are doing just fine.

He is stylin' in his new goat coat thanks to Texan.
It is helping to keep him warm since it is still quite chilly in these parts.
He is VERY cute.

I don't know his name yet.
The publicist will tell you when she shows you his photo.
What a nice Christmas present for all of us on the Farm!

Sarah and ?

As I mentioned late yesterday we had quite the surprise around the Farm.
And it wasn't Abby's temper tantrum for missing her day to post on the blog.
(A temper tantrum from Abby is NEVER a surprise!)

Sarah the goat was not due to have her kid until late October.
But she or her little buckling decided October 1st was a good day for kidding.
He is a cute little guy and he is my grandkid!

Instead of the publicist and male person picking a name I said I wanted my readers to help name him so I am going to have a contest!
I am asking you to put in suggestions for names and then the publicist will pick her favorite.

I am going to give a prize!
Three bars of my rich soap!
But to make things fair I will let Random.org pick the winner for the soap.
Sometimes the publicist is weird in the names she picks for the kids around this place....

But back to Sarah.
She was a lucky doe.
She got a whole bowl of apples all to herself!

Photobucket

A whole bowl!
Can you imagine?
I never got a whole bowl of apples after kidding. But then I never had kids during apple season.

The new baby is mostly black with a white splotch on his head and on one side.

Photobucket

Luke sure does make a lot of kids that look like this.
He also makes a lot of bucklings. The male person is not happy about this.

So here are the rules for the naming contest:

1. enter your choice for the new kid's name in the comments.
2. be sure to leave me your email address so I can contact you if you win.
3. I will take entries for one week - the poor thing will need a name soon you know - so the contest will end on October 9th.
4. Random.org will pick the winner of the 3 bars of soap and the publicist will pick her favorite name for my grandkid.
5. you can enter as many names as you like but don't be silly.

Surprise!

This is a very late post.
The publicist has not been feeling well and to top it all off we had a bit of a surprise.

Sarah had her kid!

Photobucket

She was not due for three more weeks.

Sarah is tired.
The publicist is tired.
Even I am tired.

There will be more tomorrow.
We are going to have a contest to name HIM.
Yes another buckling.

Marion the Goat Sees the Sun

The publicist let Mallory and little Marion rest in the barn today.
Mallory was tired and was nervous with a brand new kid.
Little Marion wanted to just eat and sleep.

But the publicist wanted to get some better pictures of Marion so she brought her out in the sun for a little bit. She didn't bring her down to introduce her to us big goats yet. She knows how we are and little Marion is not ready to meet us yet.  She is also small enough to be carried away by a bald eagle and we wouldn't want that to happen!

Marion was happy to be out in the sun but Mallory was a bit nervous.

Especially when they heard a noise!

But it was only a chicken in the grass; nothing to worry about.
Mallory really loves her new kid. She licks and licks her.

Marion wanted to explore a bit, though - you know what kids are like!

She especially wanted to explore the publicist's camera.

That or she is ready for her close up!

There will be lots more photos of Marion the goat in the days to come. I think it will be very interesting when she meets her half-brothers Lew and Timmy. I hope you enjoyed seeing more of Marion the goat.

I Would Like to Introduce My Grandkid - Harry the goat

It was a truly happy day on the Farm yesterday as we received a new member into our midst. Please welcome my grandkid,Harry the goat!!! His eyes are not blue, sadly, it's just the camera.

In honor of his birth so close to Father's Day this little bundle of fur has been named for the publicist's father. She is positive he is rolling over in his grave - well he isn't in a grave but you get the idea. Heh heh. Abby had a pretty easy labor and welcomed little Harry with lots of licks. We nanny goats lick our kids a lot in the beginning to clean them off.

He took his first steps within minutes of his birth, wobbly as can be but he was a real trouper! He made his way over to Abby's udder for his first drink of her rich milk with that nutrient rich colostrum.

The publicist thinks he is a little cutie. He is smaller than Kevin was when he was born.

You can sure tell from looking at the little guy that there is NO doubt as to which buck is his daddy.

They are like little goat doppelgangers aren't they? This is Luke when he first arrived at the Farm. He was two months old when he first came to us.

He is of course a very proud daddy goat.

The photos are not as good as the could be as they were taken in the barn in the dark with the flash. The publicist will have much better ones tomorrow when she takes the kid out for his first walk in the sun. I guess it is the year of the buck at the Happy Goats Farm.

It's All About the Kid!

Abby here today blogging while Pricilla is on her maternity leave. If it were up to me I would blog about, well, ME but the publicist says that I must show you photos of Kevin the goat. Why you would want to see more photos of Kevin the goat when you could see photos of me is confusing but if I want to keep this gig I have to do what the publicist says. At least for now. If I do a good job maybe she will let me go rogue like she lets Pricilla go rogue then it can be all Abby all the time. Anyway on to the boring kid photos.

Yesterday the publicist let Pricilla take the kid out for his first walk in the sun. Boy is he blinding when the sun shines on his white fur.

He did have a good time stretching his little goat legs and exploring the area around the barn. I know this is all new to him but really, can it be THAT exciting?

He also had fun playing hide and seek with the publicist and her camera.

He likes to nurse a lot. It is the only food he is getting right now but soon he will start to nibble at small pieces of hay and the green grass and weeds that are starting to grow.

Later in the day when it was really warm the publicist took Pricilla and Kevin down to Pricilla's favorite grazing spot so she could eat some grass and Kevin could walk around some more.

Then it was back to the barn. It was a long walk but it was good for him.

This is the heat lamp that is helping to keep him warm at night. It is still quite chilly here. It is really for the chickens that are coming in May but the male person thought it would help Kevin too. It looks closer to Pricilla than it really is. Photos can do that.

I hope you liked these photos of the new kid in town but I couldn't end this post without ONE photo of ME!
