Can you guess who?
Look!
It was Mr. Eagle!
He was in the tree on our Farm.
Since we don't have any little kids around we were happy to see him.
I don't think he much cared about us.
He was too busy looking for a nice fish lunch.
I stayed and watched him for a bit with the publicist
It got boring because he didn't do much.
He just sat there and once in a while he would move his head. Whoopee!
Then he looked like he might fly away!
But he didn't.
He just cleaned his feathers.
I guess even eagles need a bath now and then.
He likes to look and look and look some more.
What do you think he sees?
I think he sees fish in the river. Fish is his favorite food.
Soon he flew away, low on the river.
Lunch time!

Guess What I Saw Today?!
I was very excited.
I will bet you would be excited if you saw one too!
The publicist saw it and took pictures through her window.
It was the Bald Eagle!
He was sitting in the tree in MY yard.
Then he decided to fly away.
He jumped...
And he dived
And he soared
And then he went to the other side of the river!
Isn't that exciting?
I think so. If he is on the other side of the river he won't come and bother me.
Heh heh
The chickens were happy too. A red tailed hawk ate one of the hens last week and they have been a little bit scared lately. Red tailed hawks are sometimes called chickenhawks!

The Eagle!
It's a Happy Goats Video Extra!!!!
The publicist took this video a bit ago and she wasn't feeling well today so I couldn't spend a lot of time in the trailer typing the the blog so I thought you might enjoy seeing the bald eagle that visits us all the time.
The publicist said she is sorry it is a bit shaky but she was still learning how to work her camera and it was on telephoto...
I hope you enjoyed seeing our eagle.

Goatucation - Eagle Bait!
I mentioned in one of my posts that the kids didn't go out on too many grazes when they were little because of our resident Bald Eagle. He sits in our tree almost everyday. He is not here much in the Spring but he is here constantly in the Fall and Winter.
Bald Eagles are very large raptors and a little goat kid would make a nice meal for an eagle. Some of my commenters were surprised that an eagle could lift a goat kid. A Bald Eagle can lift up to four pounds! Goat kids when they are born only weigh (at least on this Farm) around two pounds. Now they really prefer the trout they find in the river but if they thought they could easily catch a little goat kid...
The eagle tried to fly away with Farm cat Fred so we know he is checking things out on the Farm.
We also have Golden Eagles in the area. There are not as many around as the Bald Eagles but both the publicist and male person have seen Golden Eagles flying around. They are truly magnificent birds. They are larger than the Bald Eagles; they can have a wingspan of up to SIX FEET! That is a big bird! Golden Eagles have been known to take small deer. Deer are our cousins!
So it is much better to keep the kids in the pen until they are bigger so that the eagles won't be interested in having them for a snack.
I hope you enjoyed learning about the eagles around the Farm.
Tomorrow: Who's Moooooving in?

Intermew with Fred the Cat
Today I continue the series of interviews I have done with the other residents of the Happy Goats Farm. Our subject of the moment has been a bit illusive and hard to pin down for this talk.
But now I give you my Intermew (hee hee) with Fred the Cat:
Fred, how did you come to live on the Happy Goats Farm?
But now I give you my Intermew (hee hee) with Fred the Cat:
Fred, how did you come to live on the Happy Goats Farm?
Well, I have actually lived with the publicist and male person for quite a bit of time before they started the Farm. In fact I have lived with them the longest time of anyone here! They found me in a campground in Fredricksburg, Virginia. This is when they were traveling all around the country in their trailer visiting all the states. My former owners (HISS, HIIIIISSSSSS) left me at the campground! They just pulled away in the camper without me. If it hadn't been for the publicist I wouldn't have had a home. In case it was a mistake by my former owners (HISSSSSSSS) she even left her phone number with the campground so they could call and get me back but they never called. I guess the didn't want me any more.
I am very sorry Fred, that is a sad story. Are you happy here?
You bet! This is the best place ever. I did have to get used to the new name and all. I don't even remember what my last name was. But I have so much fun here on the farm. The only thing I have to be careful of is the bald eagle. He comes and visits the Farm and one time he tried to fly away with me. This was not very nice of him.
What do you do around the Farm?
Well, I am the chief pocket gopher catcher for the male person. He does not like the gophers in his garden. They can tunnel as deep as six feet down in the ground so this does make it tough for me to catch them but I do my best. I have also brought home some other things as presents for the publicist; she doesn't always like my presents though. I do not understand this.
How do you feel about us goats?
How do you feel about us goats?
To tell you the truth, Pricilla, you have butted me but good several times. So I give you all a pretty wide berth. I don't like flying through the air. Other than that I have to say that I do like playing in your goat house when you are in the barn. Ha! Oh, and I drink your goat water out of your buckets. That is my revenge for all the butting.
I think I will end this intermew now. I am not completely sure that goats and cats should be in the same room for too long a stretch of time. Being the spokesgoat for Happy Goat Soap I should tell you that Fred is the model for our Cat Got Your Goat Soap which is available in the shop.

I hope you have all enjoyed learning more about Fred the Cat.

Visitors

I love visitors! Goats are naturally social creatures and as a spokesgoat I am even more so. We get plenty of people and other creatures that come to visit here at the Happy Goats Farm. More in the summer than in the winter but I have plenty of social activity all year round.
Today we had a visit from our Bald Eagle. He comes pretty regularly and sits on the big tree at the edge of the river. He is looking for a plump trout to eat for lunch. One time he thought Fred the cat would make a good lunch and he tried to take him away. Fortunately Fred is, uh let's just say well fed, and he was too heavy for the eagle to carry. Poor Fred had to go the emergency Vet and have his fur shaved but he was OK. Now Fred watches very closely for the eagle.
The Bald Eagle is our national bird and we are lucky to have a nesting pair not too far from us. My publicist took the photo.
