Something in the Air

I don't know what it is but there is SOMETHING in the air these days. How can I tell, you ask? Because we are all feeling a little bit frisky. Maybe it's the cooler weather. But whatever it is Jillian and Mallory were really going at each other today. The publicist let us out for a graze which was a lovely surprise.

We were over by her house munching on whatever little green sprouts we could find when all of a sudden the two of them just started butting heads and doing the goat stomp. It was some show!

Jillian was in especially fine form.

But Mallory wasn't going to let her be the only one showing some moves. Look at her here; her hind legs are flying!

 They battled up the ramp.

They battled down the ramp.

They sure kept Abby and Matthew entertained. (Doesn't Matthew look mature in his new goat halter?)

And when it was all over...they shared a log.

What a crazy way to spend a graze. I told them so and Jillian chased me back to our goat pen. But I showed her who was boss!

I am queen of the spools!

These goats just need to remember who is head goat around here.

Harumph!

Tomorrow:  The chickens strut their stuff

Who's There?

The publicist looked out her window (isn't it amazing how many of my posts start out that way? I don't know what I would do if the publicist ever STOPPED looking out her window) and noticed Jillian  looking off to the West. Intently.

Then Mallory hopped up on a spool and started staring too. Hmmm...

She wondered what could be causing them to be staring so.

Then Emily and Jeffrey joined Jillian on the little goathouse.

Even a rooster was staring. Hmmmm, WHAT could it be?
Why a visitor!
In the field next to ours!

Dusty the horse has come to pay a call.

That or to graze on the grass growing in the field.
What do you think?

Dusty is one of the horses that lives across the street. Dusty is not supposed to be over in this field. Dusty has a HUGE field for grazing across the street.

Bad Dusty!

Jillian was very surprised to see a horse right next to her goat pen!  This is the first time Jillian has been here for one of the Great Horse Escapes. Abby and I have been through them before.....

Dusty is a very pretty horse but also a very erm, challenging horse. She has been known to sneak over AND EAT OUR HAY!
Can you believe such a thing?!
Her owners soon came and took Dusty back to her corral and things calmed down in our pen too.

I hope you enjoyed seeing our visitor as much as we did!

Tomorrow:  Goatucation

The publicist has asked me to tell you that her giveaway for 100 Custom Postcards is ending tonight on her blog so if you want to enter you had better hurry! Mmm, I'd bet postcards would taste good.

Who Else Was in the Wood Pile?

The wood pile has been a popular spot lately. You saw all the fun Harry had there yesterday.
Abby had her fun there too. But who else do you suppose was in the wood pile that day?
Why those big eaters, Jillian and Mallory of course! They never miss an opportunity for a good munch.
They each picked a spot and started scoping out the best place to nibble and eat.
Jillian loves looking among the branches for a yummy lichen.

Mallory prefers nibbling on the bark of the logs.

Is that Mallory doing some stealth grazing in the wood pile?

Uh-oh! A little white goat has hopped into the pile. That can only mean trouble! Tune in Tuesday to see what Kevin did in the wood pile.
Monday will be Goatucation - Do Goats Know Their Names?

Chicken TAXI?

You will recall that we have a chicken tractor in our goat pen. You will recall that I was not happy about this. I think perhaps that Jillian and Mallory are even less thrilled than I at the moment. Unless they are charging the chickens for this service.....

Are Jillian and Mallory running a chicken TAXI service? Is that why there are chickens on their backs?

Are they charging the chickens grain for this service?
Hmmm, I wonder.

I would not sink so low. I have my dignity. I would not walk around with a chicken flapping its wings on my back.

I think that chicken looks just a bit too comfortable up there. What do you think?

I think they are spending too much time with the chickens. Perhaps they are like little Kevin and they are not sure if they are chickens or goats!

I think Jillian and Mallory are silly goats. Harumph!

What Did the Publicist See?

It started out as a normal, quiet morning. The publicist was sitting in her trailer reading the paper. That morning was the first morning she had put all of us girl goats in the same pen together. I can't say that I was happy about it. Jillian and Mallory are very, uhm, active. That's a good word - active. And playful. They are also very playful. I am an old goat. I like my peaceful time. I don't want to run around and butt heads. But I understand, the fields need to have rest periods too.

The publicist had brought in Jillian and Mallory's goat house so there would be plenty of shelter from the sun or rain. She wasn't too smart in its placement, though, because as she was sitting there reading her paper she heard some strange noises and looked out her window. This is what she saw:

JILLIAN AND MALLORY ON TOP OF THE GOAT HOUSE!!!!!

They were up there having a butting contest. Silly goats.

The publicist came out and they jumped down - actually Jillian butted Mallory off and then she jumped down. The publicist was quite upset she wasn't still taking photos because it was quite a magnificent leap!

Abby and I were discussing what to do about them and trying to stay out of the way. Can you see me way in the back of the little goat house? Kevin is in there too!

She went back into the trailer and heard the noises again! And this is what she saw:

Because the publicist was stupid and didn't move the little goat house....

Once she did that Jillian and Mallory could not jump up to the top of the big goat house any longer and all was (mostly) peaceful in the pen.

Quick Fixes are Always Neccessary on the Farm

One of our wonderful commenters asked about all of the baling twine on the gate. Given the amount of hay we go through around here we have lots of twine. It can come in very handy. When Luke first came to the Farm he was a little buck and he was scared; he missed his nanny on his old Farm and he missed his brother so he kept trying to escape from his pen. He was small enough that he almost fit through the sections of the gate so the publicist tied some twine to keep him from going through or getting his head stuck. She has just never taken it down.

She has also used the weaving skills - a term she said I should use lightly - to do some fence repairs.

Mallory and Jillian like to, uhm visit Abby and me through a hole in our fence. Since the male person is going to replace the fencing in his "spare time" the publicist figured she better do something for now. She was afraid that Mallory's head was going to get stuck.

Michael is also hard on fencing. If I were to show you photos of all he has done you would be reading this blog for a week. Ha! I made a joke.In fact, he and Luke escaped through a hole in their pen yesterday. Baaaaaad boys! He also broke through the wire in his pen in the barn. He is a very baaaaad buck. But we love him anyway.

The publicist had to make some further fence repairs as Mallory was looking for another spot to go visiting. Let's just say she had help.

More help than she needed.

I also have some SpokesGoat duties today. I love being Spokesgoat...the publicist has made new soap! She made Citrus Explosion and a new scent, Chocolate Mint. These scents will be available in my shop in about a month.
And remember through May 15th The Chicks All Right with Pricilla Soaps and The Rooster in the Goat Pen soaps are on sale for 20% off for all of my very special blog readers. Just put "blog" in the notes to seller and the publicist will either send you a new invoice or a refund whichever you prefer. Soap on sale, isn't that great? Aren't I a wonderful SpokesGoat?

And of course, the newsletter. All signups through May 16th are entered into a drawing for THREE BARS of my rich soap. Woo hoo!

Jillian and Mallory Do Battle

As you know we added two new goats to the farm while I was on my maternity leave; Jillian and Mallory. I was a little surprised at this as I did not know we needed more goats on the Farm but you never know what is going to happen around here. I wasn't very friendly at first I must admit. I did my threatening moves and some head butting but I did have a very young kid at the time and what else is a new mother to do?

I have adjusted to their presence now and I am happy that they don't have horns. Maybe the three of us can gang up on Abby and show her that her horns don't really matter in a big group. Ha!

Jillian and Mallory are getting used to their new Farm and as we watched them the other day we saw them having a little battle over the top of their goat house. It was quite funny.
Mallory jumped up there first and was sniffing the house.

Jillian started to check things out.

Mallory gave her a message that I think said, "stay away, it's mine, mine all mine!"

Jillian tried to get up there anyway. And lost

So you can see that things here on the Farm are always interesting...and active.

Be sure to sign up for my newsletter. Remember, everyone that signs up through May 16th is entered to win THREE BARS of my rich soap. I won't spam you with lots of letters. I am a busy spokesgoat.
