Catastic Event, Day 6: Guest Post from HHGutt from The Stunning Keisha and a Commentathon for AniMeals

Today is a very special day. For two reasons! It is the publicist's birthday and we are celebrating by having a commentathon to help out our friends at AniMeals in Missoula!  Isn't that great? We are also very lucky to have HHGutt here from the blog Stunning Keisha and she is going to share a tale of a REVOLT. I do not think they are happy with CK right now. To thank her for posting today the publicist is making a donation to A Call 4 Paws Animal Rescue.

But first Stinky the Farm cat is a little taken aback. It seems she didn't believe me when we were meowing this morning.

Stinky! It is not polite to be shocked at the publicist's advanced age. She can't help it. Do I have to remind you that you are no spring chicken yourself?

Sometimes I wonder about things around this Farm. I will try and keep Stinky in line while you enjoy the guest post.

Buenos días! I’m honored and delighted that Pricilla Presley Goat, AbbyGoat Lane and the Farm Cats invited me–HHGutt—to guest post during their hugo Catastic Event. “Stunning” Keisha is taking a siesta and couldn’t be bothered.

I’m going to fill you in on what’s going on in El Condo de Gato Guapo (The Handsome Cat’s Condo) since she censors what goes into the blog Stunning Keisha. There has been some very disturbing events commandeered by her which wound up with any and all stuffies being expulsados  or I believe you say tossed aside.

Happier times

CK has always been aggressive but she became particularly aggressive toward her Pop this year. Every opportunity she got, she’d attack him. Quite incidentally this started when I returned from Vegas. I went to live in Pop’s room which made CK insanely jealous. She’d visit him at night just to bite him and then leave. I tried to protect him but she was too fast.

Mrs K who CK calls TW messaged CK’s vet to discuss putting CK on Prozac or some calming meds. They discussed Comfort Zone, Essential Oils and Rescue Remedy as well. TW decided to start with the least invasive one for CK. Her and Dr. D decided CK was acting out of misplaced aggression cos she was scared jealous of us stuffies.

It’s a crime the way we’ve been tossed aside and not looked at. We’re just collecting dust and dirt and no one’s cares about us. The kicker here is even though CK did get calmer for a few weeks, she up to her old tricks again. I think it’s that new pillow on the bed.

Catastic Event, Day 4 - Guest Post from Sparkle Cat

We Farm cats are so honored to have Sparkle here today with a guest post. When Pricilla first started blogging, long before we Farm cats started sharing our adventures, Sparkle's blog was one of the very first the publicist started reading. Sparkle has been a mainstay in her daily life - she loves to read what Sparkle has to write.  She even got to meet Sparkle's human when she went to BlogPaws! So please welcome her today with her wise advice on how to be a blogging kitty. In honor of her post today the publicist is making a donation to Tabby's Place.


I confess: when the farm cats asked me to do a guest post for their Catastic Event, I
wracked my brain trying to decide on a topic! Then it struck me: why not just write about
what I know? So here is my topic:

How to be a successful blogging kitty!

The steps are quite simple, actually - check it out.

1.  Be cute! Of course, it is really easy when you are a kitten, like I was here, but we cats
     have automatic cute genes for our whole lives! So you will always be able to do that.

2. But always make sure you have attitude too. That is another easy one. I mean, we're
    cats! We are supposed to have attitude. And you can do it with something as simple as
    giving the Back of Disrespect.

3. Let your readers into your personal life. Yes, this even includes visits to the dreaded vet.

4. Comment lots on other kitties' blogs! This is very important, as you want to make lots
    of friends, and how will anyone know you exist if you don't make yourself known to them?

5. Join communities like the Cat Blogosphere and BlogPaws! This is another way to
    make sure other blogging kitties know about you.

6. Also share your blog posts on social media like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. This
     is a lot of work, so have your human do it for you.

7. If you want to be a successful cat blogger, you have to treat your blog like a business!
    Keep track of your stats with Google Analytics, create a Media kit (this can just be one
    page with your readership stats, your mission statement and a pitch about how awesome a
    kitty you are!). If you decide to work with brands, be responsible and post when you say
    you will and if you are getting paid, invoice them promptly.

8. Make sure your blog looks good! Unless your human has a background in web design
    or like my human, is pretty good at faking it, hire someone to help you. You can get
    headers from Ann of Zoolatry, or a whole blog makeover from Glogirly!
    (ED: We here on the Farm can attest that Glogirly does excellent work!)

9. This is the most important step of all: give back! The cat blogging community is a
    generous and helpful one, and we all want to pitch in and help other kitties! Even if you
    don't have much money to donate to causes, you can spread the word on your blog and
    your social media profiles when there is a rescue or special kitty in need. Word of mouth
    is really helpful, and the more successful your blog, is the more you are able to help. I am
    glad my blog does well because I feel it is an honor to be able to help save lives.
    If you follow these steps, you will be a happy and successful blogging kitty!

I don't know about all of you out there but the publicist sure appreciated these tips! She thinks they can apply to ANY blog. The Catastic Event, Day 2: Guest Post from Truffles the Cat

Welcome to day 2 of the Catastic Event! Today we are bringing you a guest post from Truffles the cat of Melissa's Mochas, Mysteries and Meows. Truffles came into Melissa's life at a very special time and tells us how kitties can be healers. All of us Farm cats thank Truffles for sharing her story and the publicist will be making a donation to the Blind Cat Rescue in Melissa and Truffles's honor today to thank them for sharing this heartwarming story today.

Hi everybody! Allow me to introduce myself...I am Truffles the tortie, co-blogger at Mochas, Mysteries and Meows. Last week I celebrated a momentous anniversary. One year ago on July 18th my life changed forever. A nice lady found me roaming around her summer camp in the Champlain Islands of Vermont and brought me to the animal shelter. A mere month later my Mommy Melissa saw my picture on Petfinder, fell in love with me and decided to adopt me! I am so, so happy in my forever home and my greatest wish in life is for every homeless kitty to be as loved as I am.

I've heard it said that when you adopt a cat from the shelter you are saving two lives...the cat you're adopting and the next one who will take their place in rescue. But you know what I've discovered? You're actually saving a THIRD life...your own! You see, when I came into Mommy's life her heart was broken. Just six weeks earlier she had suffered the loss of her beloved kitty Tara. Tara had been sick for two years with a variety of serious health issues, and Mommy was exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Coming home everyday to a cat-less house was more than she could bear, and she knew that Tara would want her to open her heart to another kitty. Preferably, another tortie (teehee!). I was the lucky one that she chose, and I made it my mission in life to put a smile on her face every single day. So far I think I'm doing a pretty good job. From the day I came home we've been virtually inseparable.

I love helping Mommy blog about my adventures, and I'm right by her side while she's reading all the books she writes about, too. I'm not famous by any means, but I purr with delight when people tell me how cute I am :) Thanks to our blog I've gotten to try out some pretty cool toys, lots of yummy treats, and most importantly I've made some wonderful friends, both human and feline I want to thank the Farm Cats for inviting me to be a part of their Catastic Event. I love being a kitty blogger and spreading the word about the importance of adopting from your local shelter. You know how humans always say that money can't buy happiness? Not true...it can be bought in the form of an adoption fee!

Catstacular Event - Guest Post from Moo of Your Daily Cute

Another mancat! Not that I don't mind drooling all over staring at the ladies but it's nice to see another boy around here.


I am talking about Moo brother of Pimp from Your Daily Cute, a blog full of all things well, cute! They even have their OWN DAY on the blog called Two Cats Tuesday. We Farm cats don't get OUR own day. What is up with that? ME-ow! I think I am going to take a poll and see if you guys would want a Farm cat day on Pricilla's blog.

Oh, hi! My name is Moo and I live with my brother, Pimp and my mom who runs YourDailyCute.com. Moms likes to call me a goofball, but I can't imagine why. It's not like I do anything silly like spend my days upside down attacking my brother or shoving my nose in Mom's face for attention...

I'm so happy to be part of the Farm Cats' Catstacular Event! I get to help do a lot good things to help other animals that aren't as lucky as Pimp and me to have a good home. I used to be outside so I know what it's like. I showed up at Mom's back porch and begged for three weeks straight for her to adopt me - and she did!  She always tells me she's the lucky one, but I know I am lucky too.

Every Christmas, Mom and her friends put together Santa Paws Drive to help bring Christmas to kitties and doggies who are in shelters and won't otherwise get presents for Christmas.  We think they deserve love and holiday cheer, too!  They do it all online so everyone can donate. And they pick six shelters all around the world to donate to!  This year we even sent some to an island off the coast of Africa!


I like to get in the Christmas spirit to help support it...

Then, just last week after the earthquake and tsunami, Mom and her friends got together again to put together Paws for Japan, to help raise money to go to help the animals hurt or lost because of the disaster. So many blogs and anipal friends we have on Twitter helped out to spread the word!  Can you believe almost $40,000 has been raised to help World Vets help over there? 
Wow!


Pimp and I know we're extra lucky, so we love to help out any other cats and animals we can.  And the Farm Cats and Pricilla and the rest of the goats chipped in to help too. We are very happy to know them and the publicist.

Wow! Pimp and Moo are very lucky and generous. We Farm cats were very happy to help with Paws for Japan. Pricilla is donating 10% of her soap sales through April 11th. As of yesterday the donation amount is $16.40. Woo hoo for Pricilla. I am sure it will add up over the next few weeks.

Catstacular Event - Guest Post from Angel and Isabella from The Beaded Tail

I must keep my mind on my job today. It's going to be hard with these two ideals of feline purrfection sharing the blog with me today. I am very honored to bring you a guest post from the very lovely Angel and Isabella from The Beaded Tail. Their mommeh makes very beautiful jewelry which you can buy in her store also called The Beaded Tail. She uses the monies to help animals.

My name is Angel and my sisfur Isabella and I are so excited to be able to participate in the Farm Cats Catstacular event!  

Before I was in the shelter where I found my mommy and daddy, I was borned a Farm Cat too.  I was too little to remember anything about my time there but I often wonder what kind of different critters I'd see while on a farm.  Of course the Farm Cats at the Happy Goats Farm gets to see lots of pretty goats, handsome bucks and adorable kids, lots of chickens, hawks, eagles and even horses.   My sisfur Isabella and I are Suburban Cats so the critters we get to see here include big black birdies...

We often see neighbor cats and the occasional deer...

It's really fun when an opossum ventures out from under our deck to where we can see it...

Even though we do have some fun critters to watch, we envy the Farm Cats who get to watch all the Happy Goats but at least we do get to have a little piece of the Happy Goats Farm in our house too!

No matter if we live in the suburbs or on a farm, we know what's important is being happy, have lots of love and enjoying every minute of every day!

Wow! Angel and Isabella live an exciting life! We have deer visit now and then but I have NEVER seen an opossum! That must have been something else and aren't the babies delicious adorable? Angel and Isabella often give VERY sage advice on their blog and they live with a DOG. She is very pretty (for a dog) and her name is Sadie. Humans! What Is Your Cat Telling You?

We cats are great communicators. We can convey our needs and desires without resorting to words - or even meows! Unfortunately, humans are terrible listeners. When we are trying to tell them something, all too often, humans tell us we are being "bad." I am beginning to think that there needs to be a cat-human dictionary, but since there isn't one yet, I will toss out a few translations here. I've picked some of the most misunderstood kitty communiques for this post. I hope it helps.


Human Misunderstanding #1: Why does my cat keep scratching the side of the couch? Is she releasing her frustration - she does it with such intensity!
What Your Cat Wants: I know my fellow kitties are saying "duh" to what I am about to say, but... hello! Your cat wants a cat tree! One that has a really scratchable surface! Not one of those flimsy, cheap scratchers. Something she can dig her claws into, something that won't wobble or fall over when she stretches up to scratch. If you want your cat to stop scratching the couch, you should make sure the cat tree's surfaces are more appealing to scratch than the couch fabric. As to why your cat is scratching with such intensity, it's kind of like an English-speaking person raising their voice when they are talking to someone who doesn't speak English. For some reason, they think they may be understood if they talk louder. Of course, that does not work for human language, and kitties, keep in mind that it does not work for cat language, either.


Human Misunderstanding #2: Why is my cat clawing the rug, even after I've told him no? And yes, he does have a cat tree!
What Your Cat Wants: While this is similar to Misunderstanding #1, it requires a slightly different solution (right, kitties?). Your cat wants one of those scratch loungers that are so popular these days. You know, the ones made of corrugated cardboard and shaped like a cat bed. You see, sometimes we cats like to scratch vertically, and sometimes we like to do it horizontally. A scratch lounger works for those times we need to scratch horizontally. If that does not satisfy your cat, then maybe you need a horizontal scratcher made from a different type of material, like maybe... carpet!


Human Misunderstanding #3: My cat keeps chewing on my plants! And it seems like the more I shoo her away, the more she does it!
What Your Cat Wants: Your cat likes chomping on greens, and she is probably bored too. Using your plants as cat grass is killing two birds with one swipe, so to speak. She gets her greens and some excitement at the same time. But what is really going on is that she is telling you to dump your silly plants and buy some real cat grass and catnip plants instead. And throw some interactive toys into the bargain, so she will stop being so bored.


Human Misunderstanding #4: Why does my cat keep jumping on shelves and knocking things off? He even looks at me when he is doing it. Is he trying to spite me?
What Your Cat Wants: Obviously, he is telling you that the shelves are his territory and your dumb knickknacks are getting in his way! (Another "duh," moment, isn't it, fellow felines?) There are actually nice-looking cat shelves and catwalks you can invest in and hang on your walls. Maybe you should get some of those. What if your cat shuns them after you have put them up? Maybe you should put your knickknacks on them and lay down some carpeting on the shelves your cat was jumping on to begin with! The original shelves probably have a better window view of Bird TV, or of the kitchen.


See? Cat language is totally easy to understand!

Catstacular Event - Guest Post from HARLEY - Brother of Daisy the Curly Cat

Today I would like to welcome HARLEY, brother of Daisy the Curly Cat with a wonderful guest post on how he came to be in his purrfect FOREVER HOME.  That's what all of us cats want - a warm place with loving mommehs and daddehs who give us lots of treats and eats!  Thank you Harley for sharing your story for the Catstacular Event!

Hey, look where I am! It’s me, HARLEY!  Pricilla invited me to post for the Catstacular Event here.  I am all FOR big events, so I am going to tell you something ABOUT me.  Did you know I was actually BORNED in a SHELTER?  Well, I got a REAL forever home a LONG time ago, so I want to tell you now why a FOREVER home is better than a SHELTER home!

At the SHELTER there were not too many good TOYS.  And I had to SHARE the toys with MANY cats.  When I got a GOOD toy at the SHELTER, I would carry it around in my MOUTH at the shelter for HOURS.  And even though I am a GOOD boy, if another cat came too close to my toy, I would GROWL!!! Toys at the shelter are PRECIOUS.

My FOREVER home is better because I have MANY, MANY toys.  And I only have to share with DAISY.  Sometimes.  And I FORGOT how to growl now.

At the SHELTER I had to SHARE a bed with OTHER cats.  My bed was usually a LITTER box with a towel inside.  Can you tell which cat is ME in this photo? Hint: I am the BIG cat!

At my FOREVER home, I have FIVE beds to choose from.  And at NIGHT, I sleep in the bed for big PEOPLE! 

These are just a COUPLE of reasons why I hope EVERY cat will get to have a FOREVER home of their own.  And these are ALSO reasons why your OWN local shelter would APPRECIATE any donations. 

Wasn't that a WONDERFUL story? All of us Farm Cats thank Harley for sharing it.  I know I was very, very happy when the male person came and took me out of the shelter. I am much happier living on the Farm even if I do have Harry the Farm kitten bothering me.
