Today's Farm Cat Friday is a very special post brought to you by a very special cat - Stinky the Farm Cat! She is going to meow to you today about being a "senior" cat.
Oh, I'm sorry! I was napping. I like to nap. I do not get to be featured on the blog very often so I am very happy to be starring here today. It's not because I don't want to it's mostly because I am a little bit older than Sherpa and Harry the Farm cats and therefore I am not as....adventurous as they are.
In fact, changing where I nap is sometimes the most adventurous thing I do in a day. Oooooh, that sun feels nice and warm on my old belly. How old am I? Well, that's a good question. The publicist says that any stray cat age is hard to figure out; I can meow to you that she found me in a campground in New Jersey. My previous owner was very, very mean and used to kick me. In fact I am still afraid of feet and loud voices. I was at least a year old when she found me and I have been living with her for 11 years now. 11 VERY GOOD YEARS! But I do feel my age sometimes.

Did you know that we senior cats need a different type of nutrition than younger cats? We do! Starting at age 7 our needs start to change as we transition from "adult" to "mature" cats. We need regular levels of phosphorus to keep our kidneys operating well. A targeted diet is important to avoid chronic problems like heart and kidney disease. We must also be sure to take care of our teeth. Once we get to 11 and beyond we can start getting a little cranky now and then - just like you humans. (Seriously publicist, I have seen you on your bad days. Own up to it!) A good, healthy diet geared especially towards the mature cat can help keep us in tip, top shape.
Take me for example. I mentioned that as an old cat my favorite pastime is napping. Especially on my heated cat pad in the winter. Every now and then though, I'll get a wild hair and I'll want to go out and play with my brothers, Sherpa, Harry and Pumpkin.
They are much younger than I am and they can stay out longer but I must admit that Sherpa takes good care of me. He does not let me get cold and he keeps me company. He will run around with me and make me exercise. This is important to help keep me from getting depressed. So eating right and playing are both important to making me a live to my full cat life expectancy.
Did you know that Hill's Science Diet® Age Defying™ Cat Food fights the signs of aging with visible results in just 30 days? Your publicists will see increased play and agility and less sleeping.
WHAT?!
I LIKE to nap.
But I also like to play.
Hmmm, this is a cat's conundrum for sure.
But I suppose that we all would like to feel younger.....
I will have to meow to the publicist about this senior cat food.
As soon as I wake up from my nap.
Here by the fire.
Where it's warm.
Warm is good.
But the rest of you should check out this great cat food. All of us older kitties can benefit from a diet made especially for us! I refused to be considered an old cat! There is still a lot of spring in my sproing!
