The Lazy, Grazy Days of Summer

In spite of some very cool morning - we have had FROST!
(Which is just not right for the end of June!)
I think it is safe to say that Summer is here!


The publicist has been letting us out to graze on the yummy grass and tasty weeds that are growing on the Farm.
I wish we could go in the garden; those turnip greens look D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S!
But that is not to be.

We have been spending a lot of time on the bank by the river.

The river is very full this year due to lots of melting snowpack and lots of Spring rain.


The publicist has warned us not to go all the way down so we don't get swept away.
(I told Abby she could try and see what happened. She didn't listen to me. DRAT)

Nora spent some time eating the pine tree.

And I did too!

It's just good to be able to roam.
I know we have the same grass and weeds in our pen.

But somehow they taste better with a river view.

Goatucation: How Goats Eat - Browsing and Grazing

It is no secret that we goats like to eat.
We like to eat a lot.
I have used a Goatucation (or two) to tell you about the four stomachs of a goat.
Now I will tell you about browsing and grazing.
We goats do both.
We are very talented - especially when it comes to food.
Mmmmm, food.

Grazing is the eating of grasses and weeds. This is what we do most often. If you ask me there is nothing better than some tasty grass.
We go grazing all summer long

We love to go grazing down by the river.
And then of course, there is stealth grazing. 

That is hiding and eating the tastiest tidbits for yourself.

We are lucky that so many yummy grasses and weeds grow here.

Browsing is eating woody twigs and leaves.
You know how much we love to munch on our trees around here.

 
We don't look at our best when we are doing it but appearance isn't most important when you are going for a delicious nibble of some pine.
Mmmmm, pine.

 It takes serious balancing to browse correctly.

Sometimes I Want to Run Away

Do you ever feel that way? I know I do. It just seems that there are too many goats, too many chickens and too many cats and I just want to be alone.

Now I know it wouldn't work because we goats are social creatures and we just don't fare well as singles. In fact we have been know to waste away without a friend. But sometimes it is just nice to dream. Sometimes I do more than dream. Sometimes I am a very bad goat. Sometimes I escape the Farm and go running across the street to the Horse Farm.

You remember the horses; I have blogged about them before. I know I am not allowed out in the street but sometimes I am stubborn and do what is wrong. I am not saying you should do this, but sometimes I am just a bad goat. I have to admit I have taken little Kevin along; this is not good because Kevin does not know about your human cars and they could hurt him.

I am such a small goat in such a big world and now I am surrounded by.....chickens. It is somehow not how I saw my life. But I suppose it could be worse. I am well treated, I get lots of apples. I have a beautiful view when I am grazing.

You must forgive my mood today. Kevin gets weaned tomorrow and it is always a sad day for a nanny.
