Please meet Harley the cat!
Harley lives all the way across the country in Pennsylvania with her sister Haleigh.
But there is one big difference between Harley and Haleigh - Harley has gotten a little bit fluffy over the years.  But first let me tell you about how Harley came to live with her human, Tammie.

Tammie had lost her cat that came before - who had lived to be over 24! -  and felt she was ready for a new furbaby.  She ended up getting two! Two little kittens born two weeks apart - one of them being the beautiful Harley. But even though Harley loves to play fetch and "birdie" she has put on some extra fluff which has led Tammie to seek a cat weight loss solution. Harley is about 6 years old and before she started losing weight she weighed 18.3 pounds. Her Vet feels she needs to lose around 8 pounds.

Sherpa Meows, "As a Farm Cat I Agree that Food is Love but I Like Cuddles Too!" #HillsPet

I want you all to know that I have a fantastic life as a Farm cat.
I think you all know this by now as I am not shy about meowing it.

I was thinking the other day - OK, stop laughing now! I think a LOT - I do!
Many pet slaves feel they have to show their love to their owners by feeding them. Maybe feeding them too much. This overfeeding can lead to overweight cats (and dogs) which is not good for the pets or their humans. I know the publicist around here responds to every hurt or ill with food - she does it with us animals and with the male person. She says it how she was brought up so it's what she knows. It drives the male person crazy sometimes! He says that despite what she claims chicken soup does NOT cure everything!

Mind you, I am not complaining because I LOVE getting treats. I, however go outside and run and play and chase mousies and lizards and snakes so I get a lot of exercise. For you kitties who aren't that active it might be a problem if your human overfeeds you.That might lead them to have to look into weight loss for cats (or dogs)!

I happen to LOVE pets from the publicist.
She's very good at hitting all of the right spots. I'm not much of a purring cat but she can get me to purr.
I will meow you a secret - the male person cannot get me to purr!

She just has a special touch. Food is Love but I also need my pets.
Don't begin to think you can trade pets for treats though! I still want my treats - don't think that anyone can take them away!

I also like to play with the feather. The publicist tried and tried and tried to get photos of me but I was sneaky. I just jumped and ran too fast for her camera. The bonus to this is that playtime is fun exercise so that if I happen to eat a few too many treats I work them off as I chase the birdie feather.

And afterward I get more of those wonderful pets. Can you tell how much I love them? I am not the only one - ALL of us Farm cats love to be pet and the publicist is very good about making us purr. We missed her when she went away but she has made up for her absence. We made sure of it!

You Might Think Your "Fluffy" Pet is Cute - But is it Healthy? #HillsPet

Harry the Farm cat here. It seems I am becoming the official SpokesCat on the Farm. I wonder - does this make me a Famous SpokesCat like Pricilla is a Famous SpokesGoat? Does this mean I get a raise?

Whatever! I am here to meow to you some Very Important Information so I would like you to pay attention, OK?  You will remember that last month I meowed to you about overweight cats and how it's not good for your kitties to be plump. It's not healthy for us cats - it can lead to all kinds of problems like heart disease and diabetes just like with you humans. They same can be meowed about doggies. Dogs need to stay at a healthy weight too. Just watch this movie about a nice doggie named Bear:




Wasn't it so sad that poor Bear couldn't even walk around? He was missing out on so much fun. On so much love! He really wasn't living - he was just existing.

You might think it is cute to have fluffy pets; there have been all kinds of photos on the internet about tubby tabbies sitting in front of the TV and things like that but cats are not meant to sit and watch TV. We are hunters! The only good kind of fluffy is this:

Pumpkin is fluffy but in a good way - he has long furs. If your pet is overweight it can impact the relationship you have. If I were plump I wouldn't want to go out and run and catch mousies. All that running and jumping and climbing would hurt my joints and I would end up just lying around.

But catching mousies is my job on the Farm and I do it well. I wouldn't be a proud Farm cat if I was too heavy to chase them around. I wouldn't make the publicist and male person proud. I would get depressed. I know how easy it is to con the publicist into giving me extra treats - I have "the look" down! -  but she doesn't let any of us eat too much. She makes sure we exercise and eat a healthy diet, mousie brains notwithstanding.

But there are some kitties and doggies who need a little extra help in the weight department and I have some good news for them and for their humans. Can you believe how good they look? Some of them were getting more food than recommended and they STILL lost weight. I am sure that their humans were thrilled with these results. The kitties were too! They were all bouncy and happy and active again. THAT is how a cat should be. (results after 6 months on the plan)
